With Los Cabos dentists - quality is problematic and here’s why.
General dentists in Mexico untrained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry,
root canals etc. can legally attempt advanced dental procedures by practicing
on unsuspecting patients.
This situation is not
the result of any conspiracy, or criminality – just less consumer protection
laws. It used to be the same situation in the US many decades ago. But
the Mexican government does not get in the way of any general dentists in
Mexico who want to learn advanced dentistry the old-fashioned way – by trial
and error on their patients (that’s you, me).
But it gets worse - especially in Mexican border
towns.
In the smaller Mexican border towns there are many clinics which prey on desperate US patients operated by
illegal alien unlicensed dentists from Central America (and the USA), dental
school drop-outs and dental technicians.
And often the biggest clinics are operated by Mexican businessmen and American Insurance companies and are staffed with dental school grads
doing (attempting) specialist work at Mexico minimum wages.
May God protect you if
you get one of those nice young dentists learning root canals at your
expense.
An article all by itself could be written about all the new dental
tourism agencies out there with clever .com names like WhateverDentist, or DentureAdventures.com. Denture Adventures?
Here's the problema. Commercial dental tourism agencies accept any
dentist’s listing whether a general dentist inaccurately calls themselves a
“specialist” or is the real deal as long as the dentist pays their often huge
listing fees. And you don’t know what you will get with these guys.
But don’t be discouraged
and give up on taking that Mexican dental vacation for here’s the way to get an
affordable root canal with a margarita chaser. Find a board certified dentist
for your important dentistry.
Highly-skilled board
certified dentists in Mexico with years of advanced specialist training cost
the same as far-less skilled general dentists in Mexico. But board certified
dentists represent less than 1% of the dentists in all of Mexico.
To find a board certified dentist in Cabo for your important dentistry - contact
the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association. They will find the right
dentist for you in the dental vacation destination of your dreams whether Cabo
San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta or even Tijuana (stay and play in San Diego).
Their patient advisers (who are dentists or call center reps) prepare estimates, referrals, arrange gratis ground transportation, answer
questions and are there for you through the entire process. And without
additional cost to you. They offer a level of personal assistance that the
commercial online dental tourism agencies do not.
