HOTEL & RESORTS

A 2,000-acre master-planned resort community on Los Cabos’ East Cape, Puerto Los Cabos continues to retain its low-key demeanor while evolving into a destination for non-conformists. With a focus on celebrating nature and culture, this gateway along three miles of white sand beach balances progress while maintaining a sense of tradition and community.
At its centerpiece is the 200-slip (400 slips upon completion) Puerto Los Cabos Marina, where life plays out via fishing charters and market with stalls showcasing daily catches hauled in by local fishermen. The vibe provides a refreshing twist from the buzz and chatter typically associated with Cabos San Lucas.
Hip Art Scene
More than a boutique hotel, the 70-room Hotel El Ganzo blends its minimalist décor philosophy with signature “Artist in Residence” and “Musician in Residence” programs providing intimate looks into these respective scenes.
The former provides the opportunity to witness some of Mexico’s finest artists as they perform their craft. Among the recently featured talents is abstract expressionist artist, Gabriel Macotela, who created a large-scale work reminiscent of the pastoral paths and walkways near El Ganzo.
The "Musician in Residence" program offers frequent live performances from internationally acclaimed singers and songwriters. Open to the public, free concerts are hosted on the hotel’s roof deck. The website includes a calendar with dates for such special events as Jazz Night, Full Moon Yoga at The Beach Club, Thursday evening songs by the fire and Friday live music with cocktails.
Sportfishing Charters
The Puerto Los Cabos Marina is the gateway to the Sea of Cortez and what are considered the world’s finest sportfishing grounds. Just 10 miles from the renowned Gordo Banks, its charter fishing departures put anglers closer to the action than those leaving from the marina in Cabo San Lucas. Cutting travel time by 2-3 hours, these big game fishing experiences create a favorable “dollar for dollar” alternative that equates to more time trying to reel in “the big one.”
From the marina, Fiesta Sportfishing offers a fleet of boats ranging from a 28-footer for four to a 42-foot Uniflite handling eight. Excursions cover roughly eight hours of fishing, crew, fuel, tackle and gear.
Jack Nicklaus & Greg Norman Signature Golf
Overlooking the Sea of Cortez, Puerto Los Cabos’ Questo features a rare composite design by two of the sport’s most legendary figures – Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus.
This combo allows golfers to experience the difference in design philosophies and enjoy a sneak peek of how each of the final 18-hole courses will challenge. What’s especially appealing is that this is the first time that designs from these revered golfers have been combined for play.
Within layouts etched into rolling desert foothills with a backdrop of the Sierra
de la Laguna Mountains, all 18 holes offer expansive panoramic views of the coastline and sea.
The Nicklaus 3,871-yard, par 37 Marina Course features undulating greens, rippling fairways and sculpted bunkers. Eventually becoming the development’s resort course, it brings players to the sea at the beachside 15th hole with its tiny green tucked in the dunes.
Norman’s 3,590-yard par 36 Mission Course will eventually function as a private club reserved for Puerto Los Cabos community homeowners. With 400 feet of elevation change and flashed-faced bunkers to signpost fairways and defend greens, the layout reflects its designer’s fondness for Australia’s classic Sandbelt courses.
Artisan Walkway & Sculpture Garden
Evolving as a community committed to supporting the arts, Puerto Los Cabos shares an eclectic collection along its Artisan Walkway and within its Sculpture Garden.
An installation of 15 bronze sculptures by surrealist artist Leonora Carrington has placed it firmly on the map as a Mexico cultural center. The installation is accompanied by 50 panels depicting the life and works of this legendary artist.
Set in grassy acreage surrounded by palm trees, the Sculpture Garden includes works by three of Mexico’s most respected living artists – Manuel Felguerez, Jose Luis Cuevas and Gabriel Macotela. The latter carved 11 stone sculpture at the garden from massive boulders weighing up to 45 tons each.
Compiled by Isaac Masri, the collection displayed here has positioned it as one of the most highly regarded sculpture gardens in Mexico.
Dining
True to its name, The Container open-air restaurant remained ecologically friendly in its construction from a recycled sea container. One of the best-kept secrets in San Jose del Cabo, the eatery that’s open daily from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. is set on a rustic wooden deck overlooking the marina. Those hungry anglers hauling in Sea of Cortez bounty can have chefs prepare it for their personal lunch or dinner.
At Hotel Ganzo, El Ganzo Rosa showcases a Mexican inspired contemporary menu daily from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. On the hotel’s roof deck, Gashoo is open daily from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with sushi and a healthy raw food menu. Reserved for hotel guests, Barefoot Beach Club features a restaurant with cocktails, plus rentals for SUP, kayaking and snorkeling. Ferries from the hotel to The Beach Club are available from dawn to dusk.
Visitors can also dine at restaurants in the development’s additional resorts that include the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa, Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort and Ritz-Carlton Reserve.
Wirikuta Botanical Desert Garden
Home to more than 1,500 desert plant varieties from across the globe, Wirikuta Botanical Desert Garden was designed to honor traditions and cultures of Mexico's indigenous peoples. Incorporating three pyramids built of massive granite boulders, the sacred design geometry pulls together acres of meticulously planted botanicals. Among the one-million-plus plants is a mesmerizing labyrinth of 1,000 bonsai bougainvillea.
