BLACK MISO FISH TACOS AT MANTA

If you’re after all things cool, sexy, and hip, there’s no better place than The Cape Hotel, a new Thompson-brand property that feels like Manhattan in Mexico, ten minutes from downtown. Each of the 161 rooms faces the ocean and comes with a money shot of the iconic Cabo arch. Indulge in the property’s beautiful room decor details, like Mexican tile and a copper tub, but save time for the breezy, homelike lobby, multiple bars, stunning infinity pool, and the excellent Manta restaurant, launched by famed chef Enrique Olvera of Mexico City’s Pujol.

TIJUANA - A NEW REALITY SHOWS - Travel Weekly

Here's an upbeat article on how far Tijuana has evolved in recent years. But the writer left one thing out - healthcare tourism, which has become a major industry. Indeed, if you just go by the numbers Tijuana is the leading medical and dental tourism destination in Mexico for Americans and Canadians. -ed
By Meagan Drillinger
Tijuana is a destination you’ve certainly heard of but not necessarily one you might be selling as a tourist destination.
Over the years Tijuana has gotten a notorious reputation as a seedy place where teenage boys from the U.S. celebrated rites of passage and depravity beckoned at every turn. And while that may have very well been the case as recently as eight years ago, one travel operator in the region insists that the TJ of today is decidedly different.

GAME OF THRONES LOS CABOS FILM FESTIVAL INTERVIEW WITH IAN McSHANE

Many are wondering if Ian McShane’s character in the upcoming Game of Thrones Season 6 is the one who’ll bring back Jon Snow from the dead. In a previous interview with Pop Goes the News at the Los Cabos International Film Festival, the British actor claimed that he’d resurrect someone viewers thought they’d never see again.

The Deadwood actor’s role in the HBO show is only for a single episode. For months, several Game of Thrones Season 6 spoilers have been speculating about Jon Snow’s fate. The Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch was killed by his own men in the Game of Thrones Season 5 finale. Is it possible that Ian’s character will get him out of the grave?

Baja Whale Watch - White Whale Named "Gallon of Milk" Sighted With Calf

There’s been a lot of strange names given to animals in the past, but a rare albino whale has been tagged with the name “Gallon of Milk.” For sure if milk came in bigger containers, this humongous whale would have a much bigger nickname, but since gallon is the largest size, then “Gallon of Milk” it is.

LATEST BAJA 1000 FINISH RECAP - Action photos, inside stories and more -

Photographers: Mark KariyaAlexander Ponce
It was this attitude that has made this crew both past SCORE Baja champions and one that was truly needed.
The finish of the Baja 1000 was one for the books. Rob MacCachren chased Apdaly Lopez the entire way, and actually physically finished second to Lopez, but was named victorious as it was determined that Lopez missed a few of the “virtual” checkpoints. He was penalized for the infractions, and it was those time penalties that put MacCachren and co-driver Andy McMillan ahead on time at the end.
These virtual checkpoints, all 95 of them, are possible thanks to the data logging and the electronics that now are part of the score keeping. Gone are the days of taping a beer can onto the roll cage where slips of paper were placed at manned checkpoints. Now, the teams are tracked in real time, exactly where they are on the course.

TIJUANA MEDICAL AND DENTAL TOURISM COMING OF AGE - New 50 Million $ Medical Center Planned - San Diego Union Tribune

TIJUANA — For decades, U.S. patients have crossed to Tijuana for lower-cost medical care, from plastic surgery to dental procedures to stem cell treatments. Developers of a planned high-rise now say they hope to capture a share of that market, offering a wide range of services in one facility, just yards from the San Ysidro border.

The owners of New City Medical Plaza envision a 26-story tower, with doctors offices, a medical lab, a surgery center, and an adjacent 140-room hotel. The idea is to provide a single location easily accessed by U.S. patients. They plan to be up-and-running within three years.

MEDICAL TOURISM COUNTRIES WHERE AMERICAN & CANADIANS SAVE THE MOST

Reposted from Dental Tourism News Today

Many Americans, Canadians and Western Europeans are traveling abroad for non-emergency procedures such as dental makeovers, hip replacement, cosmetic surgery, or even heart surgery. Each year, some 750,000 U.S. citizens travel to foreign destinations seeking medical treatment, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of respondents to a Medical Tourism Association survey who traveled abroad for health reasons did so because they were uninsured. Americans also travel for elective procedures insurance doesn't cover. Cosmetic surgery and dentistry are particularly popular tourism choices, because they are rarely covered by health insurance.

Cost is a big factor in deciding whether to seek care abroad. As a rule of thumb - Procedures that cost more than $6,000 generally are cheaper if performed outside the U.S.

LOS ALGODONES DENTAL CLINIC REVIEWS, LOS ALGODONES DENTAL PRICES & DENTISTS By Certified Dentists Internationale'

Los Algodones just around the  corner from Tijuana and San Diego is often called Mexico's Mecca of dental tourism or Molar City, It's located a mere 3 hours from San Diego California and Tijuana via US Hwy 8 or 1 hr. from Mexicali, 10 miles from Yuma.

Every year tens of thousands of American and Canadian dental patients visit the tiny border town of 5,500. 350 dentists occupy the 4-5 block town center - along with discount pharmacies, optometrists and a scattering of restaurants and souvenir shops. The cattle, cantinas and brothels of days of yore were run out of town by a dentist turned mayor decades ago. If you are into selfies you may luck upon the town greeter costumed as a giant smiling molar walking about.

Escape to Los Cabos East Cape - Cabo Pulmo & Other Less Traveled Mexican Paradises

Tired of crowds of tourists and want to get back to Mexico as it was decades ago? Try Cabo Pulmo, Puerto Escondido or Isla Holbox off of Cancun..

By M. Drillinger / February 16, 2016

Finding a great Mexican beach escape is easy; finding one with few tourists is more of a challenge. But looking past the most popular beach destinations will yield a bevy of fantastic, beach getaways in Mexico that are still relatively undiscovered by tourists. These locations will give you a slice of laid-back, authentic Mexican lifestyle on white, sandy beaches with beautiful hotels, far from the bustling boardwalks and frenzied marinas of more popular playas.

Puerto Escondido

While Oaxaca is well known for its gorgeous colonial capital city as well as its vibrant culinary scene, the state has some of Mexico’s best and most beautiful beaches, many of them still relatively undiscovered. Surfers have been chasing waves along this beach for years, especially on Playa Zicatela on the south end of the bay; the port town has been ranked among some of the best surf destinations in the world.

CABO SAN LUCAS NEWEST LUXURY HOTEL - The Cape by Thompson Hotels

Photo: The Cape Hotel located at Km. 5 outside Cabo San Lucas

If your heart and eyes long for a different when you select your hotel stay in Cabo San Lucas - something far from the same old (but truly comfortable) faux Spanish Colonial style hotels, you should take a look at this new post-Odile Cabo luxury hotel - The Cape by Thompson Hotels.

Located at km. 5 just outside of centro Cabo it displays a wonderful panoramic vision of Cabo San Lucas bay and Land's End beyond. The architecture incorporates many sophisticated design trends as the following article will inform. And it's definitely not Mexican hacienda style or even Spanish modern. No glaring white plaster walls, red roof tiles or adobe pots. Just lots of big windows, balconies and huge terraces to enjoy the outside with, which is what you came to this 'desert by the sea' location for afterall.

I'd venture to describe it as 'Desert Industrial' given its clean no-nonsense Bauhaus lines, open spaces and reliance on the darker earth tones found in local plants, rocks, reefs and desert highways. Now I have to leave before the architect of this masterpiece breaks my laptop. Read the following article from Maxim to catch the full flavor.  -ed

LAS VEGAS MEDICAL TOURISM - Meet Dr. Reefer, Dr. Life and the Lice Doctors...

GAMBLING YOUR BONES - LAS VEGAS HEALTHCARE

Las Vegas now promotes special clinics for medical tourists - spa's, wellness centers and of course - casinos.

Las Vegas may be about 20 years behind the rest of the world regarding medical tourism but the town has other unique medical pros it can hype such as the Lice Doctors and Dr. Life. And don't miss Doctor Reefer! He will make your stay awesome.

Organizations have partnered to promote Las Vegas as a destination for medical and wellness tourism. Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance, and others developed a strategic plan for medical tourism.

Photo: Does Las Vegas offer crab doctors too?

While gambling, dining and shopping are popular reasons for visiting Las Vegas, several organizations have partnered to bolster the city's reputation as a destination for medical and wellness tourism.

And many are questioning how a town with reputation for over-the-top indulgence such as endless buffets, free drinks, 24/7 gambling, hookers and con artists can reinvent itself again. In the early days of the Sahara it was to be a gambling and entertainment mecca then Circus Circus, Treasure Island and others transformed it into a family vacation destination. And now Medical Tourism? Dr. Reefer must be blowing smoke up some fella's skirt at LVCVA.  -ed

MEXICO CITY'S BIZARRE NARCO MUSEUM - The Daily Beast

NARCO CULTURE

Mexico City's Secret Narco Museum

Deep inside Mexican army headquarters sits a crazy collection of bling and weapons nabbed from drug traffickers—and religious iconography praising the Messiahs of the drug wars.

Hidden in the smog-ridden north of Mexico City, inside the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense—or Mexican army HQ—sits one of the most fascinating museums on the planet.

The army humbly calls it the Museo de Enervantes, which can be roughly translated as the Museum of Stupefacients. But this boring technical title underplays the incredible collection of artifacts on display, the highlights of what Mexican soldiers have nabbed from drug traffickers.

Some seized narcotics themselves are in the cabinets, but these are the least interesting items. A lot of people already know what marijuana, crystal meth, and heroin look like (although the black cocaine on show is a novelty). The drug lab machinery is more enthralling, including sprawling shiny contraptions to cook meth on an industrial scale. Pieces from trap cars, the vehicles used to smuggle drugs over the border in gas tanks, tires, and false seats, also illustrate the ingenuity of narco engineers.

More frightening is the heavy weapons room of captured cartel firepower; you see that narco thugs don’t only use belt-driven machine guns and grenades, they even possess shoulder-held rocket launchers, such as the RPG-29, or “Vampire,” which can take out tanks.

But the museum’s main attraction is undoubtedly a room under the title narco cultura. The narco culture cabinets display the ostentatious bling that drug lords buy with their billions of bloodstained bucks. Some pieces are worth high five digits in the stones and metal alone.

FIND THE BEST TIJUANA DENTIST, FIND REVIEWS OF CERTIFIED DENTISTS IN MEXICO By Board Certified Mexico Dentists Association

Everyone knows you can get affordable dentistry in Tijuana - But can you get quality too?

The lure of high-paying foreign patients is attractive to many non-certified dentists in Tijuana who offer super low prices on dental implants and makeovers they are not properly trained or certified for. But it's not just TJ, it occurs all over Mexico and in developing nations everywhere. Here's what to watch for if you want the best dentistry in Tijuana or in any dental tourism destination place for that matter.

Tijuana's upscale Zona Rio has fine restaurants, museums, galleries, clubs, first-class hotels, malls, casinos and some of the best board certified dentists in Tijuana. Over 40 million people cross the border each year. And tens of thousands of them are dental patients. There's also a lot of dentist pretenders.

There are over 2000 dental clinics in Tijuana and all want dental tourism patients.

If you are like most Americans who cross the border searching for a good Tijuana dentist you want quality and affordability. The big question always in everyone's mind is: How do you sort out the pretenders from the fully good dentists in Tijuana who are certified for crowns, veneers, dental implants, oral surgery and orthodontics?

EL CHAPO & KATE Del CASTILLO ROMANTIC LOVE TEXTS - and Chapo Guzman didn't even know who Sean Penn was!

“I Will Take Care of You More Than I Do My Own Eyes”:

El Chapo’s Texts to Kate del Castillo

By Juliana Jiménez Jaramillo

The Mexican publication Milenio had a great scoop today: They got their hands on text messages exchanged between recently reimprisoned drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and Kate del Castillo, the Mexican actress who brokered his meeting with Sean Penn. That meeting and interview, published in Rolling Stone, led to El Chapo’s arrest Friday.

According to Milenio, the text messages were sent over a series of encrypted BlackBerry devices. Throughout, El Chapo strikes an affectionate, at times romantic, tone with del Castillo, who reciprocates. How much of what either of them text is genuine romantic sentiment, we’ll never know.

What we do know is that when Mexican marines raided El Chapo's hideout they found the entire collection of del Castillo’s narconovela TV series, La Reina del Sur, in which she plays a drug lord who drinks, smokes, curses, and doesn’t hesitate to kill or torture whoever gets in her way.

The Mexican government confirmed for Telemundo that the texts are legitimate.

"The laws of conscience, which we pretend to be derived from nature, proceed from custom." —Montaigne

It's September 28th, 2015. My head is swimming, labeling TracPhones (burners), one per contact, one per day, destroy, burn, buy, balancing levels of encryption, mirroring through Blackphones, anonymous e-mail addresses, unsent messages accessed in draft form. It's a clandestine horror show for the single most technologically illiterate man left standing. At 55 years old, I've never learned to use a laptop.

Do they still make laptops? No fucking idea! It's 4:00 in the afternoon. Another gorgeous fall day in New York City. The streets are abuzz with the lights and sirens of diplomatic movement, heads of state, U.N. officials, Secret Service details, the NYPD. It's the week of the U.N. General Assembly. Pope Francis blazed a trail and left town two days before. I'm sitting in my room at the St. Regis Hotel with my colleague and brother in arms, Espinoza.

Sean Penn's Secret Jungle Encounter with El Chapo Guzmaz - NY TIMES

NY TIMES

Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the Mexican drug lord known as El Chapo, started out in business not long after turning 6, selling oranges and soft drinks. By 15, he said in an interview conducted in a jungle clearing by the actor and director Sean Penn for Rolling Stone magazine, he had begun to grow marijuana and poppies because there was no other way for his impoverished family to survive.

Now, unapologetically, he said: “I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats.”

Guzman, the infamous boss of the Sinaloa drug cartel, was arrested in northwest Mexico on Friday morning, and sent back to the prison he broke out of in July through a mile-long tunnel that led straight into his cell.

WHY MEXICAN DENTISTS LOVE OBAMA CARE - By David de Los Angeles

Mexican Dentists Are Dancing In The Streets Over Obama Health Care.

By David de Los Angeles, Cabo Mexico writer
Updated Jan. 2, 2016

Are you desperate for a root canal but waiting for Obama Care? Don't hold your breath because the new plan does not  make dental care any more affordable. And the press has been silent about this.

Here's the reality: It's business as usual for America's dentists and a root canal will still cost the price of a plane ticket to London.

Here's what you get with the new Obama 'No' Dental Care plan:

Millions of dollars in oral hygiene education, fluoridation and federal subsidies for dental schools. So what! Millions of uninsured AND insured Americans will still be unable to afford expensive dental treatments such as root canals, crowns, veneers, implants, cosmetic dental makeovers etc.
