The capsized boat stayed afloat until the seven men aboard were rescued, but eventually sank. Divers who examined the boat said it had a hole in its hull.

A crew of fishermen that included three Billings businessmen survived unscathed after their boat sank during a marlin fishing tournament off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Wednesday.

“We didn’t win the tournament, but we’re happy to be home and alive,” said Carter Stewart, owner of Cardinal Oil and Stewart Geological in Billings.

A 2015 survey, asked 1,022 Americans to weigh in on the most annoying behaviors exhibited by hotel guests. The study was conducted for Expedia by independent market research company GfK.

Inattentive parents topped the list, aggravating 67% of respondents. Hallway hellraisers annoyed 64% of respondents, followed by complainers (54%).

Charlie Sheen has stepped into a legal mess after a visit to the dentist reportedly turned violent.

According to a lawsuit filed by Margarita Palestino, a dental technician based in Los Angeles, the actor, 49, committed assault, battery, sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress on Sept. 25, when he sought treatment at his dentist's office for an abscess.

 In her complaint, filed Friday in the Superior Court of the State of California, Palestino states that she was assisting Drs. George Bogen and Jaime Azdair in an examination room when Sheen ripped off the nitrous oxide mask she had placed on him upon Bogen's orders, and then shouted, "I'm going to f–––ing kill you!" to those present in the room.

Cabo is back!  More Los Cabos hotels and resorts are open every day. Commercial flights are running once again and the first cruise ships made port on Oct.13, 2014

Power and water have been restored to most of La Paz (98%) and Los Cabos (about 85%). Internet and telephone is spotty but getting better each day as repairs are made.

Most restaurants and bars are open. Activities providers and  boat charters are operating and golf courses are swinging having had little damage and much appreciated rain.

Dr. Antonio Serrano, Los Cabos, Cabo San Lucas Baja Mexico Expert Eye Doctor, Opthamologist - 

 "Normal" sight for this 50-something year-old young man had become over the years - sight polluted by tiny black spots, amoeba-like ‘floaters,' and strange flashes of lightning. I hadn't had an eye exam in 10 years. Not willing to trust blind luck (no pun intended), I asked around for the name of the best eye physician in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, and was immediately referred to Dr. Antonio Serrano located in nearby San Jose del Cabo. 

The doctor speaking perfect English, welcomed me to his clinic for an exam and treatment. Being un-informed about eye care, I queried him about his medical specialty and what kind of eye problems he encountered here in Mexico. 

Dr. Serrano spent 6 years obtaining his M.D. at the University of Guadalajara graduating in 1985, another year interning in a hospital, another year doing his Mexican government required social service in a clinic, then another 3 years at the Institute of Ophthalmology in Mexico City to be an eye surgeon. That's 11 years if I counted right. He's been practicing in San Jose del Cabo for over 15 years.

If you use a credit card to pay for restaurant and/or hotel charges protect yourself and be sure and if your charges are being submitted to Visa/MC in pesos (which they should be) or in US currency.

During a visit to Cabo in mid-June 2014, I noticed that several restaurant and hotel receipts showed the total price in pesos and dollars. How nice - I thought the dollar conversion was a courtesy. Not true. Some, if not all hotels and larger restaurants are submitting their receipts to Visa in dollars using their chosen exchange rate instead of the daily official rate of exchange.

The Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association has dentist members in Mexico’s major cities and resort towns including Cabo San Lucas which was recently devastated by hurricane Odile.   

Upon seeing the disaster unfold, Association staff was able to contact local Cabo dentist members and get an assessment as to the extent of the damages.  “Our patients who have dental appointments with Cabo dentists for October and November need to know the estimated time for repairs,” said one staffer.

One clinic was unscathed and another suffered minor damage and would be ready for patients in a matter of days according to reports. However, as of the 25^th of September, only 50% of power has been restored to the community and there is much destruction to local resorts that may take another 2 to 3 months to repair.

Cabo is digging out but it's not easy. Looters took all the shovels from Costco and Walmart.


Sept. 23, Cabo – One Week After Odile

The Cabo cleanup is under full swing but handicapped by a lack of power because as of this date CFE the federal electric commission is overwhelmed to say the least with having to rebuild the power grid. Virtually every power pole in Los Cabos was blown down. Over 3,000 in the state was the last figure reported. 90% of power in La Paz has been restored and only 19% in Cabo.

Another big problem is the lack of building materials. Millions of square feet of resort, commercial, residential and even auto glass was blown out.  I suspect there isn’t that much glass on-hand in the state of Baja Sur or maybe even all of Mexico at the moment to fill the need.  It will take weeks to get the materials needed from cement to plasterboard, paint, lighting fixtures, furniture and more for Cabo to be ready for visitors again.

The material will need to be ferried over on the daily ferrys from La Paz or Topolobampo that are currently being used to bring emergency food and other supplies. The alternative is to bring it down from Tijuana approximately 900 miles north by truck – a 17 hour journey when the 2-lane highway is fully functioning.  Are you getting my drift?
